BCG coverage and the association between selected factors and the immunization coverage among children under the age of two years in rural and semi-rural Lhasa District, Tibet / Yangzong Ciren. - Oslo : Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, 2007 - 66 p. (Master's thesis) Aim: Tuberculosis (TB) is a worldwide pandemic. The BCG vaccine still remains the standard for TB prevention in most countries because of its efficacy in preventing life-threatening forms of TB in infants and young children, and BCG is the only vaccine available. To achieve a high BCG coverage, it is important to investigate the BCG coverage in populations and the factors which affect the immunization status. Thus giving us clues for improving the coverage. Few such studies have been conducted in Tibet. The aim of the present study is to estimate the BCG immunization coverage and to investigate the association between the BCG coverage and the selected factors in children less than two years of age in semi-rural and rural areas of Lhasa District. Methods: The present cross-sectional study was carried out among children less than two years of age in Quxu County (N=484) and in Damxung County (N=496) of Lhasa District, Tibet. In Quxu County we selected all the children less than two years of age and in Damxung County we used multi- stage sampling method to select the sample. The questionnaire consists of core question regarding socio-demographic characteristic of household, the knowledge and belief of mothers related to the immunization and TB, accessibility of health services and the BCG immunization history of children. BCG vaccination scar were checked on the children’s shoulder and recorded.

- Oslo : Department of Cultural Studies and Oriental Languages, Universitetet i Oslo, 2007. - 113 s.

Genus och jämställdhet bland tibetaner i exil / Catarina Jonsson. - Karlstad : Karlstad University. Faculty of Social and Life Sciences, 2008. - 42 p. This work presents the way exiled Tibetans I’ve met view gender and equality. The world is becoming increasingly global and in order to educate future world citizens it is important to make sure that they learn about gender and equality. Males and Females have different cultures and where manly is the norm female is the exception, but it is important to try and level out these differences while children are still in school. This work originates from studies of literature and several interviews with exiled Tibetans in the Indian city of Dharamsala. They are Tibetans with different roles in the exile-Tibetan society and also of different generations and gender. They also have different connections to education. I have done a few observations at a school, among students and their books and I have read reports from the Tibetan Women’s Association. The conclusion is that Tibetans in exile have developed a view of gender and equality that didn’t exist in Tibet. They have also made progress in issues concerning gender and equality.

Hur bemöter man idag tibetanska flyktingbarn i Dharamsala? / Kavita Bergström. - Karlstad : Karlstad University. Faculty of Arts and Education, 2008.
